Mingary Care really made a difference

When Paul’s wife Suzi was diagnosed with terminal cancer, he lovingly took on the responsibility for caring for her. As her illness progressed it became clear that she couldn’t be left alone. Suzi wasn’t eligible for funding due to her age so Paul was very relieved to discover that Mingary Care would be able to step in with some support.

“I needed to get out to do the shopping and other errands – and I also needed a bit of a break,” said Paul. “Mingary Care funded a respite carer to come in for three hours a week so that I could do that. It was so comforting knowing that Suzi was safe and cared for while I was out. They also arranged for transport so that Suzi could be taken to and from hospital.”

Suzi very much wanted to die at home, but the energy required to run the oxygen concentrator was too much for their solar powered house to cope with. Mingary Care arranged for the hire of a generator to solve this problem, so Suzi was able to remain in the comfort of her own home with her loved ones by her side.

“Mingary Care made an incredible difference to us,” said Paul. “I was struggling to pay for the type of funeral that Suzi had asked for and they made a significant financial contribution to make that happen. They are just a fabulous organisation.”

As a token of his appreciation Paul has since donated some wonderful items to Mingary Care’s op shops, which is a valuable way of contributing to their ongoing fund raising efforts.
