Eddie’s wife, Julie had terminal cancer and he thought he could manage caring for her on his own. When the hospital organised some practical in-home support through Mingary Care he was overwhelmed to discover there were people in the world who genuinely wanted to help.
“Mingary Care supported us for three months. I didn’t think I needed any help,” said Eddie. “I soon discovered that wasn’t the case. I had absolutely no idea what I needed in this situation. As you come to terms with the day-to-day reality the fatigue starts to set in.
“They organised weekly house cleaning and a chair for the shower which made an enormous difference. Having people around to help made me realise I wasn’t alone. It absolutely eased the physical and emotional toll of caring for my wife.”
Eddie’s gratitude says it all – “I just can’t believe how kind and compassionate they have been. I cannot fault one person I have met at Mingary Care. They make the world a better place.”
Mingary Care can provide free, short-term access to services such as equipment, medications, wound dressings, hospital parking and fuel vouchers.
We also fund in-home care such as personal care, domestic assistance, respite and bereavement counselling. If you know of someone who needs support, please get in touch.
