Honouring Mingary Care: A special visit to Queensland Parliament House
Mingary Care visit to Parliament House

We extend our heartfelt thanks to Health Minister Hon Shannon Fentiman, Aaron Harper, MP
for Thuringowa and Jason Hunt, MP for Caloundra, for the gracious invitation to Parliament
House on Thursday, 13 June 2024. This opportunity allowed us to speak about the vital work
Mingary Care is doing within the Queensland palliative care sector and the broader Queensland
health system.

Our Managing Director, Sue Mason-Baker, accompanied by our dedicated Board Member,
Margaret Evans, visited Parliament House for the first time. The tour of the building was a
highlight and we extend our gratitude to Jason Hunt for making us feel incredibly welcome.
This important meeting resulted from a conversation with Aaron Harper at the Ambulance Wish
Queensland (AWQ) Gala Ball held on 25 May. Aaron Harper is a strong supporter of AWQ, of
which Mingary Care is a proud local supporting partner. Additionally, Jason Hunt’s ongoing
interest in our work has been invaluable.

Interestingly, Minister Fentiman recently visited our Caloundra Op Shop following
recommendations from a family member and she had glowing remarks about the shop,
describing it as beautiful. She asked us to extend her sincere thanks to all our hard working
volunteers for their wonderful work supporting the community. This is indeed a huge
compliment.

Mingary Care provides free, short-term crisis palliative care and end-of-life services on the
Sunshine Coast. We rely heavily on our op shops to fund this unique and responsive model of
care. A huge shout-out to our incredible volunteers who make all of this possible. Your
dedication and hard work are the backbone of our mission, and we are deeply grateful for your
continued support.

Like to know more about how you can get involved? Mingary Care is always looking for
volunteers in their op shops. If you are interested please call us or email
